Editor's Note
Hello
there and welcome to this issue of the Microcontroller Designline Newsletter. Well,
I don't know about you, but I'm still feeling a major "rush"
after watching the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games on
Friday.
The strange
thing is that I'm not really a sports enthusiast. I enjoy watching
American Football on TV with my son Joseph, but I usually don't have a
clue exactly who we are watching (which drives Joseph to distraction
:-) Obviously I knew that the Olympics were upon us, and I had vaguely
planned on watching the opening ceremony, but I wasn't really driven to
it, as it were. Fortunately, I heard a report on the radio while I was
driving home saying how wonderful the opening ceremony was. Even
better, I managed to watch it from the very beginning.
I have to admit that I got a lump in my throat and a little tear in my
eye when I saw the opening imagery of Great Britain. And then I was
completely blown away by the ceremony itself. I mean to say, how could
you describe this to someone? Pastoral England followed by the Industrial
Revolution… the Queen and James Bond parachuting out of a helicopter…
hundreds of doctors and nurses and patients… a gigantic Lord Voldemort
being defeated by a gaggle of Mary Poppinses (what is the plural of
Mary Poppins?)… and then things started to get complicated…
As I said in My Blog on this topic, I certainly don't
envy whoever is in charge of organizing the opening event for the 2016
Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, because the United Kingdom
has set a standard that is going to be very hard to follow.
Don't forget that this newsletter provides only a "tempting
teaser" of all of the cool stuff that's constantly appearing on
the Microcontroller Designline site. So don't be
a stranger – visit with me on Microcontroller Designline every day to
make sure that you aren't the last person in your office to know what's
going on (grin).
As always, please keep your comments coming. Until next time, have a
good one!

This
whitepaper explores the different LED driver topologies and digital
control methods available for driving multiple LED strings efficiently
to reduce system cost, lower operating expenses, increase color
accuracy, and improve overall reliability.
Memory
operations per second (MOPS) provides a better metric for assessing new
techniques like algorithmic memory.
Power
Noise Integrity (PNI) is becoming a number one IC design focus, as
product quality, circuit reliability and lifetime robustness are
increasingly important parameters of strategic business value in
high-volume IC products…
The
growing number of electronic control devices in vehicles calls for a
short-term solution that allows several functions to be integrated onto
one chip. Avionics provides one model: in that field, the technology of
partitioning has already been in use for ten years. A microkernel,
acting as the basic operating system, generates partitions in which
other operating systems can run.
Temporary
networks formed with compact, portable satellite base stations give
broad, robust access in emergencies.
