| 01.29.21 | Chip stocks soar despite bizarre markets

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY:

  • If you work or invest in the semiconductor sector, there’s some reassurance that it has done well despite the crazy market behavior of recent days and even the global shortage of auto chips. One index of 30 major chipmakers has more than doubled in the past year and Intel was a market leader on Thursday.  Of course, things change quickly on the market, but it is nice to know that the industry has depth and staying power.
  • For a great example of engineering prowess applied to a household device, check out this interview with the director of engineering at CHEF iQ in the development of the Smart Cooker with its sensors able to measure weight, temperature and pressure for ideal results.
  • If you are dreaming of an alternative to Silicon Valley for your next engineering job, there are places like Albuquerque where the cost of living is more realistic. - Matt Hamblen
